WATCHMAN CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL MOVEMENT
2021 FIRST FRUIT FASTING EXERCISE 20th Jan. – 9th Feb. 2021 (Day 5)
Theme: IDYLLIC ERA OF CONCEPTION AND PARTURITION
Topic: THE SMALL SHALL SMASH THE STRONG
Text: Judg.20:21
So far in this fasting exercise, we have shown the place of trust in the declaration of God’s servant, and the need to walk by faith (2Chro.20:20, 2Cor.5:7). It was shown that irrespective of the challenges that pervade the globe, the Lord is bent on putting a difference between His people and others as He did at Goshen.
So, it is the day of the Lord proper, an idyllic (excellent and delightful in all respects) era of conception and parturition. It is a time of breaking through conventional boundaries .
The apparently small (child of God) shall smash the strong.
Our text shows the thrashing of the whole nation of Israel by one of it’s twelve tribes. Though the victory was not permanent as the defeated bunch returned to the Lord to do the appropriate; yet the temporary victory of the Benjamites establishes the possibility of the apparently small thrashing the greater.
A. CASES FOR REVIEW
The scriptures are filled with cases of the apparently weak or small trouncing the greater:
i. The nation Israel against the Canaanites (Num.13:11, Deut.7:1-2, Jos.2:9-12)
The journey-weary Israelites would have been no match to the indigenous people of the land, if there was no supernatural factor that played.
ii. Gideon and his 300 could never have been a force, when 32,000 Israelites soldiers were no match to the Midianites, but for divine involvement (Judg.7:16-22).
iii. Knowledge and anointing bridged the gulf between inexperienced ill-equipped ruddy David and the rugged experienced man of war, Goliath (1Sam.17:45-47, 50)
iv. Prophet Elijah initially looking disadvantaged numerically, singlehandedly capsized Jezebel’s idolatrous ship with a crew of 850 prophets of Baal and of the grove (1Kgs.18:17-22, 38-40)
v. The little army of Israel that appeared like 2 little flocks of sheep before the Syrian behemoth, ultimately thrashed the apparently sophisticated soldiers of Behadad (1Kgs.20:27-30).
vi. Asa’s trust in and recourse to God neutralized the over one million soldiers of Ethopia(2Chro.14:9-15)
B. THE COMMON FACTOR
The hand of the Lord was involved in all the cases because God indicated interest in the apparently disadvantaged viz: the Israelites vs Canaanites; Gideon and his 300 vs Midianites; David vs Goliath; Elijah vs the 850 false prophets ; Israel vs Syria; Asa’s army vs Ethopians.
The Lord manifests His hand whenever His holy people come under threat (2Chro.16:9, cp. Isa.59:1-2).
The Lord is set to repeat His feat towards His obedient children who are under the threat of the mighty (Ps.35:7-10, Isa.49:24-25, Zech.2:8, Rom.8:31)
