Theme: RIDING ON THE HIGH PLACES OF THE EARTH
Texts: Isa.8:18, 49:5, 58:8-11,14
Topic: SEED SOWING, A SURE SECRET OF SUCCESS
Subtext: Gen.8:22; 2Cor.9:5-15
In this last third of the exercise, it is very crucial to understand the messages that the Lord has led us to prepare.
The devil, the evil genius, knowing the importance of finances in the growth of the kingdom has influenced some ministers to bastardize the subject of giving through their ostentatious life style thereby causing many to be scandalized and always “switch off” when finances are being spoken about by ministers of God.
But we cannot shy away from giving you the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27).
God informed Noah of a terrestrial law involving seedtime and harvest and Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians using seed sowing as a metaphor for “giving”. We shall look at the following points:
- Seed Sowing, Explained
- Seed Sowing, An Act Of Worship
- Seed Sowing, Profitable.
Literally, seed sowing is the act of planting visible seeds on the soil with expectation that there will be a harvest.
Figuratively, it is the act of giving or making investment in another’s life or church with some “expectation”. And expectations vary from person to person.
The seed can be something
concrete/physical like food stuff, materials, money, vehicle, etc (2Cor.8:1-3, 11) or
abstract like time, virtue, prayer, word of God (Matt.13:3-9,18-23).
While it is right to teach that it is more blessed to give than to receive as taught by the Lord (Acts 20:35), it is equally absolutely right to show the place of expectation in obedience to God’s word (Isa.1:18; Lk.6:37; 2Cor.8:9).
It must be noted that giving and expecting from the Lord does not amount to GAMBLING, as long as it is done in decency, honesty and without ill intention (Heb.13:16; Gal.6:9-10; Matt.25:35-40; 6:1-4).
(B) SEED SOWING, AN ACT OF WORSHIP
An act of worship is a deliberate action performed to show devotion or reverence towards God. It must be noted that the worship is not all about emotion but more of recognition of God.
Understanding the fact that seed sowing is an act of worship will make a giver to give magnanimously and without grudges (2Cor.9:6,7). Giving is an act of righteousness (Heb.13:16; 2Cor.9:9). There is eternal reward for giving (Lk.16:9; Matt.25:35-40), and there is interim reward (2Cor.9:8,10-15; Lk.6:37; Phil.4:19). Giving sacrificially is an expression of love and honour to God (1Sam.2:30). And people addicted to scriptural giving will always enjoy fellowship with the Spirit of God. Consider the tone of the letter of apostle Paul to the Philippians who were habitual givers, and you will see the gentleness of the inspired word sent from the apostle (Phil.4:15-17, 4,2).
The more sacrificially one gives, the deeper the worship being engaged (cons.
Ps.126:5-6; Eccl.11:1-2,4-6).
(C) SEED SOWING, PROFITABLE
Sowing seed gives a legal right for harvest. Seeds are God’s creation to sustain life and provide wealth on earth for in every seed there is inherent ability to reproduce.
There is a place for wisdom in giving (2Cor.8:12-15) and yet another for sacrificial giving (Ps.126:5,6; Pro.4:7)
Gifts pave ways for the giver (cp.Pro.18:16) incite recipients to pray for the giver and glorify God which will redound to the giver’s credit (2Cor.9:11-14).
Giving evokes joy of service, and so, one must not miss any opportunity to sow.
One reaps what he sowed and much more; and the more the seed, the greater the harvest.
Abraham sowed the seed of his son and got back his son plus an unquantifiable harvest. The Lord Jesus sowed His life got back His life and rescued mankind.
Seed sowing is a paramount secret of success in the kingdom.
