WATCHMAN CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL MOVEMENT FIRST FRUIT FASTING FELLOWSHIP 2025 (MARCH EDITION) Day 2
Theme: UNVEILING AND UNEARTHING THE UNTAPPED RESOURCES
Texts: Gen. 1:27-28, 2:8-12; Pro. 25:2; Eccl. 8:17; Jn. 1:15-16
In the introduction session, we encouraged every believer to follow the principle of ever-advancing as there is no place for stopping or stagnation in the kingdom, drawing our example from the Apostle who refused to be contented with his achievements (Phil.3:10-16).
Then, we proceeded to explore our theme stating that as there are naturally occurring resources (which are wealth, materials, etc) which a person or country has and can be drawn in order to function effectively) so are these spiritual resources buried in the Lord God. We mentioned a couple of them like Divine love, wisdom, mercy, power, compassion, goodness, longsuffering, etc.
We showed that these resources are infinitely abundant but unfortunately accessed by very insignificant few (Exo.34:6; Rom.11:33).
Our focus shall be on mercy.
Topic: Amassing The Untapped Resources: Mercy
Subtexts: Exo.33:19; 34:7
Mercy means capacity for holding oneself back from punishing, or from causing suffering to somebody whom one has the right or power to punish. God’s mercy forgives the vilest of offenders (1Tim. 1:15; Lk. 7:37-39, 47-48). It is boundless and incomprehensible (Exo. 33:19; Num. 14:18; Eph. 2:4), reaches out to all races (Exo. 34:7; Ps. 103:11; 145:8; Dan. 9:4). Furthermore, it runs from generation to generation (1Chro. 16:34,41; 2Chro. 5:13, 7:3,6, 20:21; Ezr. 3:11; Ps. 103:17, 106:1, 107:1, 136:1, Jer. 33:11). God’s mercy rejoiceth against judgment (Jas. 2:13).
Tapping God’s Mercy
The first step to tapping God’s mercy is that one sees one’s need (cons. Ps. 12:5, 40:17, 86:1; Isa. 41:17; Matt. 5:6). Every person on earth needs to tap God’s mercy to obtain forgiveness and cleansing of sin, justification and regeneration, at a point in time in the life of the individual. For one thing , “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23; Gal.
3:27). The point in time that has been approved by God is the very time of being confronted with the glorious gospel (good news) of the blessed God (Ps. 32:6, 69:13; Isa. 49:8; 2Cor. 6:2; Heb. 3:7-9).
To further aid our hearers/readers on the need to tap God’s mercy for forgiveness, etc, let us consider the following truths:-
The love and mercy of God sent Christ to the cross as a propitiation (sin offering) for the sins of mankind (cons. Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:8; 1Jn. 2:2, 4:10). Since then, the voice of Jesus and of His shed blood has been crying into the ears of the Lord God (as it were) saying, “forgive whosoever comes” (cons. Lk. 23:34, Heb. 11:24).
And the Lord cannot but show mercy and forgive whosoever that comes to Him while this dispensation of grace lasts (Heb. 7:25).
Further to the above, the willingness of the Lord should also motive the need into reaching out for God’s mercy and forgiveness, cleansing, justification and regeneration (cons. Isa. 45:22; Matt. 11:28; 1Tim. 2:4).
Having been quickened by the above truths, the one that wants to tap God’s mercy for forgiveness, cleansing, justification and regeneration should follow the following procedure;
- In the heart, let godly sorrow be brewed (cons. 2Cor. 7:10)
- With the mouth, let all sins be confessed to God (Pro. 28:13; 1Jn. 1:9).
- With the heart, let the blood of Jesus be trusted for the sins repented of and confessed (Heb. 9:14; 1Jn. 1:7; Rev. 1:5) and
- With the heart, let the goodness, power, grace and faithfulness of God be trusted for godly living henceforth. This is what is termed,
“repent and believe the gospel” (Mk. 1:15; “believe in the Lord
Jesus and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31), repentance from dead works toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21; Heb. 6:1).
NB: The mentioned principles will apply when a backslider is returning to God, as well as when one overtaken in a fault is returning.
CONSEQUENCE FOR NOT TAPPING GOD’S MERCY
The following consequences follow and will follow all that neglect God’s mercy:-
In the interim they have barred themselves from the peace of those that have received mercy (cons. Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:14).
Meantime, the voice of Jesus and His blood is speaking in favour of whosoever will come to the Lord, but at the end of the earthly life of the unforgiving person, the voice of the blood of Christ will cry “condemned” “condemned”, since His sins crucified the Lord and yet he remained unrepentant. The truth of this can be seen from the voice of the blood of Abel which was shed by his brother Cain (cons. Gen. 4:10)
