As we ply the spiritual highway in pursuit of the divine proposal: Juggling in Jubilee Terrain wherein one is elevated to the platform of extraordinary performance, it is necessary to take a look at the awesome authority that the magnanimous Master left for us.
It has been earlier stated that we belong to a kingdom even the kingdom of God; and in every kingdom or state or nation there is always a provision for people to act on behalf of those in charge.
So in God‟s master-plan for His human project, it was designed that there shall arise the look-alikes of the Son of man who will do exploits on the planet (Rom. 8:29).
We shall explore
(A) The Saintly Authority (A) The Scope of the Authority ( C) The Strengthening/Sharpening of the Authority.
At no time in church age is the need to understand our authority more relevant than now that the devils are on rampage knowing that their time is short (cons. Matt.8:29)
Authority is simply
the power or right to give orders, make decisions and enforce obedience.
In Luke 10:19, the Greek word
Exousia was translated „power‟ which means delegated power or authority.
So,
Saintly or Christian authority is the power to act, decide or command, given by Christ, the higher Authority. It is a right to do something without hindrance (Eph.1:22,23).
The saint is empowered to enforce obedience (2Cor.10:5). Every citizen of the kingdom has been given this authority.
- THE SCOPE OF THE AUTHORITY
Ignorance of the scope of authority is a major factor inhibiting growth and performance of the church. The Scriptures reveal the broad extent of the delegated power, namely: healing of the sick, cleansing of lepers, raising the dead, casting out devils (Matt.10:7-8); destroying all manifestations of devils (Lk.10:19); determining the outcome of events on earth even enforcing obedience (Matt.16:19; 18:18; 2Cor.10:5,6).
The believers are to act in the stead of Christ (Eph.2:6; Matt.28:20) and no situation or spirit is exempted. The only thing is that stubborn spirits test the faith and patience of commanding believers (Mk.5:2-13; Acts 19:14-17; Eph. 6:12).
- THE STRENGTHENING/SHARPENING OF THE AUTHORITY
Authority is based on knowledge, and so when knowledge grows, authority is strengthened.
The Bible is the source of authoritative instruction for our Christian life, and so acquaintance with the word will reflect in the authority wielded (2Tim.3:15). Faith boosting exercises like meditation, prayers, fasting, etc also reflect on the acuity of the authority (Jos.1:8; Ps.1:1-3; Mk.17:21-23).
A very prominent or overriding factor that sharpens authority is use i.e. manifesting the authority in field work. Any gift that is not used will suffer atrophy!
So this time, we must go out to the streets to get the captives freed, exert and expand the influence of the kingdom (Matt.28:18-20; Jn.14:12).
By this, our status will rise before God and man as the awesomeness of the authority that we bear will be showcased.
