The personality that said a thing matters, how effective the word or command will be depends on the authority of the commander or instructor (Gen.1:1-5, Ps. 33:10-11). In our last Charismatic Hour message titled “Be Thou Loosed”, we saw that the command of the Master yielded dividend and he that was dead and bound became freed. We are well aware of the fact that what one hears influences him; some unto peace and happiness, others unto fear and sorrows (cons. Prov.25:25; Lk.1:44; Num.13:27-33; 14:1-3; 2Chro.20:1-3).
Today’s message is geared towards teaching us the attitude to exhibit towards “voices”. We shall be looking at: (a) The Voice Of Man (b) The Voice Of The Devil (c) The Voice Of God.
(A) The Voice Of Man (Isa.40:6-7)
All flesh is grass… (Isa.40:6) means “all men are like grass, and the goodliness or beauty or glory of men is as the flower or grass which fades as swiftly as he dies” (Isa.40:6-8; Job14:1) Man, whose existence and longevity being as that of grass on earth, is not to be solely trusted. His promises are not to be wholly relied upon, for they do frequently fail (cons. Jer.17:5-6; Job34:14; 14:1).
His threats are not to be magnified, for he may not live long enough to carry them out, and he is often unable to fully accomplish them (cons. Gen. 3:19; 2Kgs.18:9-37; 19:1-35; 19:36-37).
So then is there any threat from any man by word or action? Any report (scientific, medical, legal, judicial, official, occultic, etc) rising against your wellbeing? Do not panic; for the Voice of men is the voice of grass!
(B) The Voice Of The Devil (Jn.10:10a; 8:44; Rev.12:10)
The devil and his cohorts liars (Jn.8:44), and whatever they say, is designed to steal (the peace, progress, persuasion), or kill (the faith, joy, assurance) or destroy (the testimony, favour) of their victims/targets.
Their voice could be heard in fear-inducing demonic dreams (seductive dreams, nightmares etc) or through mediums (their agents: Eg. Fortune tellers, native doctors, occultists, mad people, false prophets or prophetess etc), or through normal men who unconsciously speak against the word or will of God as did Peter (Matt.16:21-23; Lk.13:31). The voice of the devil is the voice of a liar and should be disregarded by every genuine child of God!
(C) The Voice Of God (Num.23:19; Isa.40:8; 46:9-10; Jos.21:45; 1Kgs.8:56)
God is the Being that knows the end (future) from the beginning (past) (cons. Rev.1:8, 18), and that ability guarantees that whatever He says should be trusted.
His condemnation or threat should be viewed with every seriousness, and responded to with fear (Prov.28:13a; 11:21; Ps.9:17).
His commendations and promises should spur faith, health and wealth.
What then is that circumstance threatening? Who is that spirit or man that is speaking against you? (Lam.3:37).
Let’s rise to pray. HSCF 152, 115
